SPOKANE, Wash. — The University of Idaho has announced they have fired men's basketball coach Don Verlin for cause.

The school placed Verlin on paid administrative leave on May 24th after self-reporting three NCAA violations. One involves a staff member practicing with the team.

Verlin's final record at Idaho was 177-176. Last season the Vandals struggled mightily going 5-27 overall and 2-18 in conference play.

He has been the head coach at Idaho since March of 2008. He is the winningest coach ever for the men's basketball program.

Assistant coach Zac Claus will coach Idaho next season. A search for a permanent coach will be done next spring.
