Washington high school state tournament games: March 4th

The first round of the state tournament got underway on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON GIRLS PREP BASKETBALL

4A State

First Round

Moses Lake 61, Rogers (Puyallup) 43 (highlights in video): The Chiefs set the tone at the end of the first quarter with a buzzer beating lay up and took a 12 point lead into the half. They'll play Union Thursday at 2 PM.

2A State

First Round

Port Angeles 68, Clarkston 54

West Valley (Spokane) 67, Black Hills 36 (highlights in video): Nevaeh Sherwood powered West Valley to a 17-4 lead in the first quarter and Black Hills could never catch up. West Valley plays W.F. West at 2 PM Thursday.

  

1A State

First Round

Freeman 49, Elma 25 (highlights in video): Freeman finished the first half on a 9-0 run and never looked back. They'll play Warden at 7:15 on Thursday.

2B State

First Round

Northwest Christian (Colbert) 47, Adna 28 (highlights in video): NWC finished the first half with a 7-0 run to get up by double digits and then had a strong defensive second half to pull away. Ellie Sander finished with 13 points and eight rebounds to lead the Crusaders. The move on to play Ilwaco on Thursday at 9 AM.

Toledo 50, Colfax 48 (highlights in video): The Bulldogs led 19-5 at one point, but the Indians stormed back to tie the game by halftime. It was close from there until the end of the game. Toledo was able to make some crucial buckets and free throws to pull out the narrow win.

1B State

First Round

Curlew 53, Naselle 26 (highlights in video): Curlew took down Naselle 53-26 behind a double double by Korin Baker who had a game high 25 points for the Cougars. Curlew moves on to face Pomeroy Thursday at 5:30 pm.

Mount Vernon Christian 49, Moses Lake Christian Academy 41

Oakesdale 62, Lummi 28 (highlights in video): Oakesdale defeated Lummi Nation behind five three pointers by Julie Banjo. She finished with a game high 15 points. Lizzy Perry and Jessie Reed also scores in double figures as the Nighthawks trounced the Blackhawks. Oakesdale will face Neah Bay on Thursday at 3:45 PM.

Wellpinit 68, Clallam Bay 57 (highlights in video): Wellpinit trailed 15-7 after one quarter of play, but then the Redskins went on a 24-4 run which pretty much sealed the game in the second quarter. Ashlynn Hill had 22 points to lead all scorers and Lachelle Boyd added 16 more as the Redskins defeated Clallam Bay 68-57. Wellpinit plays Inchelium Thursday at 9 pm.

WASHINGTON BOYS PREP BASKETBALL

4A State

First Round

Sumner 60, Gonzaga Prep 59 (highlights in video): Gonzaga Prep had a shot to win it with 1.5 seconds left but Liam Lloyd couldn't convert. Jayden Stevens returned from injury and scored 18 points.

3A State

Seattle Prep 74, Mt. Spokane 50

First Round

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 62, Rainier Christian 30 (highlights in video): Reece Isaak had a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Warriors cruised. They'll face rival and #1 seeded Odessa at 10:30 on Thursday.

Muckleshoot Tribal School 64, Garfield-Palouse 58

Oakesdale 65, Taholah 58, 2OT (highlights in video): The Nighthawks took control in double OT there, starting the period on a 7-0 run. Oakesdale plays on Thursday against Yakama Nation Tribal at 2 PM.

Riverside Christian 69, Selkirk 67, OT (highlights in video): Selkirk had a shot to tie the game up or win it with three seconds to go but turned over the ball. Selkirk's Ryan Zimmerman had 25 points.

2B State

First Round

Brewster 74, Kettle Falls 48 (highlights in video): Brewster opened up a double digit lead in the second quarter and never relinquished it. The Bears got strong performances from Corey Jarrell and Cade Gebbers. They'll play Toutle Lake Thursday at 7:15.

Lake Roosevelt 62, Wahkiakum 59 (highlights in video): Lake Roosevelt's Soarin Marchand hit the game winning buzzer beater. Lake Roosevelt will play Life Christian at 3:45 on Thursday.

White Swan 50, Colfax 44
