Gonzaga women's basketball falls to No. 1 Notre Dame

The Gonzaga women's basketball team is facing national champion Notre Dame on Thanksgiving, but it is a game you will not be able to find on TV.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Gonzaga women’s basketball team fell to No. 1 Notre Dame on Thanksgiving.

The final score was 81-65.

The matchup began at noon in Vancouver, British Columbia, but it is one you will not be able to find on TV. Fortunately, there are opportunities to stream the game and keep up on social media.

Gonzaga and Notre Dame’s last meeting took place on Dec. 29, 2010 at the Holiday Hoops Classic in Seattle. Notre Dame won 70-61. This is the second meeting in program history for the Zags and Fighting Irish.

In 2010, the game saw 12 ties and 17 lead changes until the Fighting Irish outscored the Zags 23-9 in the final nine minutes of the game.

The Fighting Irish headed into the Thanksgiving matchup with a No. 1 ranking in both the Associated Press Top 25 and USA Today Coaches polls. The team has also claimed all 31 first place votes in the AP poll and 30 of 31 in the USA Today poll.

The game was the fourth time in program history that Gonzaga has faced an opponent ranked No. 1. The Zags women are 0-3 so far against No. 1 programs, starting with a 79-65 loss to Tennessee in 2005.

The last time the Zags faced a No. 1 team was against Stanford in 2010. That game took place in The Kennel.
