Gonzaga falls to No. 8 on AP poll after loss to UNC

The Zags were ranked No. 1 in the week 5 poll and No. 4 on the poll released last Monday.

Gonzaga (10-2) fell to No. 8 on the week 6 Associated Press college basketball poll after the University of North Carolina (8-2) Tar Heels took down the team 103-90 on Saturday night.

North Carolina climbed from No. 12 to No. 9 on the AP poll. Kansas is ranked No. 1.

The Zags were ranked No. 1 in the week 5 poll and No. 4 on the poll released last Monday. Duke, Tennessee, Michigan and Virginia round out this week's top 5.

Cameron Johnson had 25 points and six 3-pointers to lift UNC over Gonzaga on Saturday. The Tar Heels shot 57 percent in the first half to build a 14-point lead at the break.

Zach Norvell Jr. scored 21 points to lead the Bulldogs, who shot 56 percent after halftime and 51 percent overall.

“They’re right up there with anybody we’ve played,” Gonzaga coach Mark Few told the Associated Press. “Especially on the glass, we haven’t been beaten on the glass like that all year. And I know we certainly haven’t given up 50 percent in both halves for defensive field goal percentage. So, they’re right there.”

“I think we did our job making them take tough shots, but we just didn’t come up with the rebounds,” said Josh Perkins, who had 20 points and eight assists. “They wanted it on the boards and defensively they went at us. They earned that win.”

The Bulldogs return to face Texas-Arlington on Tuesday.
