Gonzaga's Josh Perkins named a finalist for Point Guard of the Year award

If Gonzaga's Josh Perkins wins the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award, he would be the first Zag to do so.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga’s Josh Perkins was named one of five finalists for the 2019 Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Monday.

The award is named after Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic and Holy Cross guard Bob Cousy. It recognizes the top point guards in men’s division one college basketball. A national committee comprised of top college basketball personnel narrowed the original watch list of 20 candidates down to the final five.

The winner will be determined by a combination of fan votes and input from the Basketball Hall of Fame’s selection committee. Fans can visit HoophallAwards.com to cast their votes on March 8-29.

Perkins’ competition includes Tremont Waters of LSU, Markus Howard of Marquette, Cassius Winston of Michigan State and Ja Morant of Murray State.

Perkins became Gonzaga’s all-time assist leader this season. He sits at 683 assists in his career, which ranks sixth in WCC history, and 205 this season. The senior is five points away from 1,500 in his career.
