The pipeline of international recruits to Gonzaga continued Thursday with the addition of a promising European guard.
Joel Ayayi, a 6-foot-4-inch point guard from France picked the Bulldogs. According to Evan Daniels of Scout.com he chose the Zags over Georgia Tech.
Ayayi last played for INSEP Academy in Paris, which produced the likes of Ronny Turiaf and current Zag Killian Tillie. The rangy, athletic guard is the latest in a long list of overseas players to pick Mark Few's program. Gonzaga assistant Tommy Lloyd has helped land the likes of Przemek Karnowski, Domas Sabonis, Rui Hachimura, Jacob Larsen and Tillie in recent seasons.
Ayayi fills a roster spot for a GU team that has suffered a number of losses following their run to the NCAA Championship Game. Nigel Williams-Goss and Zach Collins left for he NBA Draft. Karnowski, Jordan Mathews and Rem Bakamus graduated. Shooting guard Bryan Alberts elected to transfer.
He will join a backcourt that includes Josh Perkins and Silas Melson, as well as incoming freshman Jesse Wade. Wade will arrive in Spokane this summer having spent the last two years on a mission through the Mormon Church.
