SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga baseball lost out on a chance to share the West Coast Conference regular season title with an 8-1 loss to Loyola Marymount on Saturday.

The Zags had to win Saturday night and Sunday to tie with BYU at the top of the conference standings.

The most shocking part was that LMU took it to Gonzaga's most consistent pitcher Mac Lardner.

Over his prior 6 outings he had pitched at least six innings each time. In all of those six starts combined, he only allowed a combined 11 earned runs.

On Saturday. he allowed 7 earned runs in just 4.2 innings. Lardner also allowed 11 hits tonight. That's the most he's let up in a start this season.

With the loss, Gonzaga baseball will be the two or three seed in the West Coast Conference tournament. A win on Sunday would clinch the two seed. A loss on Sunday combined with a Saint Mary's win will get the Zags the three seed.
