Spokane grocery stores short on toilet paper, hand sanitizer amid coronavirus concern

Customers at grocery stores around Eastern Washington had trouble finding several items on their shopping lists.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Customers at grocery stores around Eastern Washington had trouble finding several items on their shopping lists.

Amid people taking precautions for coronavirus, stores saw shortages of items like toilet paper, hand sanitizer and water.

A representative at a Target location said the average shopping cart has about $70 of items in it. Since Monday, he said each cart has had about $150 worth of items.

Cashiers said people were stocking up on items like soups, pasta and canned vegetables.

Supplies of disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer are still empty. Store employees said they estimate their supply should increase in about a week.
