SPOKANE, Wash. — Comments made at a private fundraiser for Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers in Spokane last week are making national headlines Thursday.

Those comments were made by California Congressman Devin Nunes who heads the House Intelligence Committee.

Nunes discussed the idea of impeaching Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein who is overseeing the Russia Investigation during the fundraiser. At one point, you could hear Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers chiming in.

Fuse Washington shared with KREM 2, 43 minutes of audio recording with Rachel Maddow on MSNBC exclusively.

The three clips Maddow shared included Nunes talking about how President Trump's tweets make him cringe, how it would be criminal if a hypothetical country gave Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers stolen email, and impeachment.

At one point you can hear the Congresswoman chime in when Nunes was responding to a question from the audience about impeaching Rosenstein. Rosenstein has been overseeing the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election after Attorney General Jeff Sessions rescued himself.

Nunes suggested that midterms and the time-table for confirming a new Supreme Court Justice were reasons why the impeachment hadn't happened.

In the recording, you can hear McMorris Rodgers say, "Also, the Senate has to start."

Members of McMorris Rodgers' team told KREM 2 that there were no conversations at the private fundraiser of impeachment plans, but rather they were speaking to the process of impeachment.

We asked Fuse Washington, the organization that leaked the audio, about the context of the clip regarding impeachment. They said, "McMorris Rodgers sounds like she's reinforcing what Nunes is saying."

While Nunes' team has not responded to the audio leak, McMorris Rodgers' team told KREM 2 that it is another political tactic by Fuse Washington to spread misleading information and lies.
