Navy names Loon Lake native 2018 Sailor of the Year

Sailors that show “outstanding initiative and commitment to the Navy’s mission and teamwork” are selected as Sailor of the Year before a board of senior sailors.

LOON LAKE, Wash. — The Navy has named a Loon Lake native 2018 Sailor of the Year.

Navy Machinist’s Mate (Nuclear) 1st Class Bradley Rumann serves aboard the USS Columbus.

Sailors that show “outstanding initiative and commitment to the Navy’s mission and teamwork” are selected as Sailor of the Year before a board of senior sailors, according to statement from the Navy.

Rumann serves as a lead nuclear mechanic, quality assurance petty officer and command career counselor for a submarine, according to the statement. This means he works to maintain the submarine's engines, pumps, turbines and air conditioning.

“My proudest accomplishment so far is leading my division through a change of homeport, deployment and an overhaul,” Rumann said.

Rumann joined the Navy to follow in the footsteps of his uncle and grandfather.

“Being a part of a brotherhood that transcends generations is my favorite part of the submarine force,” Rumann said.
