Upriver Beacon Fire is 100 percent contained

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- The Upriver Beacon Fire is 100 percent contained Saturday afternoon.

Officials have demobilized fire crew and they are headed back to their home jurisdiction. Since Thursday, fire crew have used 1000 loads of retardant and water to contain the fire.

Local firefighters and officials from the Washington State Department of Natural Resources will continue to patrol the fire area for several more days.

Many of these crews will be heading to other fires burning throughout Washington state. There were 87 fire personnel assigned to the fire Saturday morning, according to the Northeast Washington Interagency Incident Management Team.

The Upriver Beacon Fire burned 115 acres.

Officials said firefighters were very successful at strengthening containment lines.

Camp Sekani and Sheilds Park Climbing Rocks have reopened Saturday morning. Park officials are advising citizens to stay clear of areas of the park that have burned for safety reasons.

The fire began at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday near the 6400 block of East Upriver Drive. Washington State Fire Mobilization was approved and resources from across the state helped get the fire under control.
