PULLMAN, Wash. – Not many people outside of Eastern Washington know the beautiful intricacies of the Washington State University logo.
Some may see an enraged cougar with huge eyebrows and whiskers. Cougs understand the rhythm moving from the "W" of the neck to the face of the "S" and the roar of the "U."
Now the nation has taken notice. Well, the internet anyway.
In a poll done on reddit.com, Washington State University was voted “Best of FBS Logos” (FBS refers to NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, the highest level of college football).
It took down the Michigan State University Spartans in the championship with 56.3 percent of the vote.
It was a long road there to win the 64 school tournament. It started off with a first-round bye then beat the USC Trojans (62.5%) in the second round. It proceeded to defeat (in order) California Golden Bears (52.5%), LSU Tigers (69.1%), West Virginia Mountaineers (68.8%) and the Virginia Cavaliers (72.6%) in the Final Four.
“Finally we won something! Go Cuogs (sic),” user “Semper_OFP” said.
“As a Spartan living in WA state, I object! I demand a recount!” user “nibay” said.
“Maybe WSU beating us in the final four is a fitting revenge for taking Tony Bennett from them.” user ztrobin5 said referring to Bennett who was a former head basketball coach.
They did not specify how many votes were cast.
The University of Washington Huskies did not make the field of 64. The University of Oregon Ducks did however.
