University Medical Center at Brackenridge moving to new location, changing name

Hospital operations at the University Medical Center Brackenridge will soon be moving to a new location.

Hospital operations at the University Medical Center Brackenridge will soon be moving to a new location.

Later this month, the hospital is relocating across the street to a new building and changing its name to "Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas."

The move across Fifteenth Street will not happen until Sunday, May 21.

On that day, at 7 a.m. all patients and hospital staff will be moved to Dell Seton, and Brackenridge will be officially closed.

KVUE got an inside look at the brand new, $311 million facility.

Dell Seton is also a "teaching" hospital – meaning students can train there to get their residency.

"In our current facility, that facility wasn't designed to enhance the teaching environment,” said Christann Vasquez, president of Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas. “This facility we're in really takes us to that next level in being able to include our learners closer to the bedside … as well as very patient-centered around the delivery of care.”

The new building is seven stories tall with 211 beds. There will be an open house Saturday, May 13 from 1 to 5 p.m.

The exact plans for the old facility at Brackenridge will be determined at a later date.

According to Central Health, it is likely to be redeveloped into a mixed-used community of office buildings, apartments and shops.

Until the May 21 move, UMCB is the place people can receive medical attention.
