Freeman HS volleyball team makes it to state, 2 months after fatal shooting

A gunman shot and injured two of their teammates, and even though they're not quite back on the court, they never miss a game.

FREEMAN, Wash. – The Freeman High School varsity girls volleyball team is celebrating after making it to the state tournament nearly two months after a gunman shot two of their teammates.
School officials said both girls are recovering well, and even though they are not playing just yet, they never miss a game.

Throughout the season, other teams have shown their support for FHS by wearing “Freeman Strong” shirts to warm up, bringing flowers to the games and sporting ribbons in their hair – even weeks after the tragedy.

The whole school cheered for the team as they left Thursday morning for the tournament in Yakima.
“I am really looking forward to finishing at the Dome four years in a row and placing with our team,” said Meg Neely. “It is really great how close our team has become over what has happened to us this year, and I am really looking forward to finishing off the year really well.”

Freeman play Lynden in their first game at state on Friday at 3:15 in Yakima. We wish them the best of luck!
