Head-on crash on Hwy 395 near Colville kills one, toddler uninjured

Troopers on scene said a car with three people inside was headed northbound on Highway 395 when it veered off and drove over the median.

COLVILLE, Wash. — The Washington State Patrol said one person died and two people were injured in a crash on Highway 395 about six miles south of Colville at approximately 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The WSP identified the woman who died as 81-year-old Shirley J. Ashbaugh. 

She was driving southbound and alone, the WSP said. Drugs or alcohol have been determined not to be a factor.

The crash occurred on Highway 395 near milepost 223 in Stevens County, the release said. The roadway reopened at 10:24 p.m.

A 2-year-old was uninjured, troopers said.

The people in the northbound car were taken to a nearby hospital for non life-threatening injuries. 

Troopers said a detour was put in place around 6 p.m.
