WSDOT: Here's what you should keep in your car during winter travel

According to Washington State Department of Transportation, there are recommended items drivers should have stashed in their cars in case of a winter weather emergency on the roads.

SPOKANE, Wash. — With the start if the holiday season right around the corner, there are certain precautions people traveling by car should take when hitting the road.

According to Washington State Department of Transportation, there are recommended items drivers should have stashed in their cars in case of a winter weather emergency on the roads.

You should have the following in your car on a long road trip:

  • Full tank of gas (it seems obvious, but essential)
  • First aid kit
  • Cell phone charger
  • Flashlight
  • Water and snacks
  • Ice scraper and snow brush
  • Jumper cables
  • Flares
  • Tire chains
  • Warm clothing

WSDOT also advises that you check to see if you have traction tires and know what the traction advisories when on the road.
