SPOKANE, Wash. -- Spokane Police have arrested a suspect in a carjacking that happened in Downtown Spokane Monday afternoon.

Officials said the victim was carjacked at the intersection of Spokane Falls Blvd. and Stevens around 12:30 p.m. Police said the suspect opened the door to the Kia Rondo and tried to force the driver out of the car. During the struggle, authorities said the driver was pulled from the car but their foot was partially stuck. The driver was drug for a short distance before being ran over by the car.

Court documents from the incident show the victim lost both of her shoes during the carjacking. One was left at the scene and the other was left inside her vehicle.

Authorities said several people saw what happened and called 911. Police said one of the witnesses followed the stolen car as it got onto I-90 going westbound at about 90 miles per hour.

Police said the stolen car was located on I-90 near the exit for Garden Springs Road. Officers pulled the suspect over as they yielded on the exit for Highway 2.

Officials said Tamara Hayes, 20, was taken into custody without incident. She was arrested for first degree assault, first degree robbery, theft of a motor vehicle and second degree malicious mischief. She was booked into the Spokane County Jail.

The victim was treated for her injuries and got her vehicle back.
