Spokane tourism sees no impact despite smoke

Local hotspots for tourism in Spokane haven't seen a decline in visitors even though the smoke has significantly impacted the air quality.

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — With all the smoke in the air you would think that would deter people from visiting the Inland Northwest, right?

WRONG.

Matt Jensen with Davenport Hotels said the smoke is affecting guest numbers but not in the way you would expect. Business is up seven percent compared to this time in 2017, Jensen said. He also said four out of their five hotels are sold out this week.

While some could argue it is because there will be an event at the Grand, it does not explain Davenport Tower’s lack of availability. Washington Parks and Recreation Commission also said they have not noticed a decline in tourism around Mount Spokane, Riverside Park or the Centennial Trail.

If you are concerned about your health and hope to avoid going outside in the smoke, Visit Spokane gave KREM 2 a few suggestions to keep the fun going inside:
