Spokane potholes in full bloom, city wants you to report them

All of the moisture from the snow seeps into cracks and expands when it freezes causing those pesky potholes.

SPOKANE, Wash. — All of this sunshine is a welcome sight to many people, but now that the snow is melting we're having to deal with a new problem, potholes and a lot of them.

Your commute will likely be a little bumpy for the next several weeks as more potholes open up.

If you've lived in the Inland Northwest after a winter, you know this is only the beginning of pothole season. All of the moisture from the snow seeps into cracks and expands when it freezes causing those pesky potholes.

We could see even more of these this year because of the record snowfall and bitter cold temperatures.

KREM 2 wanted to know where the worst spots are in Spokane, so we asked you to send us locations through our Instagram page.

We went for a ride to find the worst spots in town so you know the areas to avoid.

We found a deep hole on Railroad Alley in downtown, a drive through this one could cause damage to your car.

Then, we checked out the bumpy road on Freya on the South Hill, this pothole wasn't as deep. We could tell it's been patched several times by the city.

Our last stop took us to the Shadle Walmart, where a large pothole was filled with sandbags. Most drivers we saw didn't even chance it and drove around.

The Street Maintenance Division patches year-round and they track them too. This year, they've filled more than 1,700, which is about a third of the amount filled last year, 4,610.

If you see a pothole, report it to the City's Pothole Hotline at 311, or for outside city limits, 509.755.CITY (2489).

You can also report them online at SpokaneCity.org. Go to the "My Spokane" tab and select "Report a Problem." You're encouraged to include as much information as possible about the location of the problem and its approximate size. Using the on-line application, you can add a photo or "pin" a location on a map.
