Spokane conceal carry group to rally against I-1639

Spokane Conceal Carry is holding a really in Franklin Park Saturday in opposition to a gun safety initiative.

SPOKANE, WASH — Members of Spokane Conceal Carry will be raising their voices Saturday in response to Initiative 1639. The organization’s main goal is to protect and promote gun rights.

The group plans to share that message during their Liberty or Death Rally in Franklin Park.

I-1639 is a gun safety initiative that would raise the purchase age of semi-automatic rifles to 21. It would also require background checks and a waiting period in Washington state.

"We're tired of having our rights restricted. you keep on chipping away, chipping away," Tadd Howard, a member of Spokane Conceal Carry, said. "One of the main concerns is our constitution and the constant degrading of our constitution."

This is why Howard and members of the group oppose 1639.

A Thurston County judge Friday threw out more than 300,000 signatures which would have kept 1639 on the November ballot. The Washington state Supreme Court is prepared to take up this case, but does not have much time.

The justices must weigh in by Aug. 31 for this initiative to make the November ballot.
