An Eastern Washington school district is moving to a four-day school week, air quality is improving in our area and a local donut shop owner is finding the strength to carry on in the face of adversity.

Washington school district cutting Mondays

Waterville School District in Eastern Washington will become the fifth school district in the state to move to a four-day school week – meaning students and staff will have a three-day weekend. The school district hopes the decision will increase staff retention and recruitment, boost attendance, and improve the classroom experience.

Air quality improves

We are seeing a slight improvement in air quality in Spokane and North Idaho. Throughout most of the week, our air quality has sat in the “unhealthy” range. Now, we are sitting in the “unhealthy for some groups range,” according to the Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency.

Perseverance in the face of adversity

A local donut shop that has seen its share of tragedy is moving forward. Donuts to Go owner Pholnalie Leng took over the shop just days after his mother passed away. This is after his dad passed away a short time before.

Singing TSA agents

Two TSA agents found a way to make the work day fun. They sang instructions to traveler waiting in the Sea-Tac International airport. The video has since garnered more than 180,000 views on Instagram.

Tracking down a grizzly in Idaho

A grizzly bear that wandered into a family’s backyard in Athol, Idaho, has a new home. Idaho Department of Fish and Game officials said they captured the young grizzly and relocated him to the Cabinet Mountains on Thursday.
