SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Fire Department responded to a structure fire in a retirement community just after 3 a.m. Sunday, but they were unable to save the home.

Initial reports advised of a possible exterior fire at a gated retirement community in the 2300 block of W. 16th Ave, but crews found fire throughout the structure when they arrived. Fire crews used large diameter attack lines to extinguish the main fire while other crews protected nearby homes.

Firefighters confined the fire to to the structure and remained on scene until late Sunday morning to ensure they completely extinguished the fire.

No injuries were reported, but damages from the fire resulted in total loss of the home. Investigators with the Spokane Fire Department are working to determine the cause.
