PEND OREILLE COUNTY, Wash. --- A car and dump truck crashed on southbound State Route 2 on Friday afternoon killing a 17-year-old boy.

Officials said a car going north on State Route 2 around 3:30 p.m. was unable to stop when a school bus in front of them stopped to drop off students. According to Washington State Patrol, the car crossed the center line and was hit by the dump truck.

Authorities said the driver of the car Braden Nichols, 18 was injured along with two of his passengers, Lilly Gray, 18, and Cody Warner, 16. WSP leaders said Michael Warner, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene. All of those injured were taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane for treatment. Gray was taken to the hospital by life flight.

Authorities said Cody Warner was the only passenger in the car wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

WSP said the cause of the crash was inattention and the crash is under investigation. Crews cleared the scene of the crash around 10:30 p.m. Friday.
