Tools 2 Schools: Roosevelt teacher needs supplies

Tools 2 Schools is taking donations to help Lyle and other teachers across the Inland Northwest.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Many kids are need of school supplies with the school year right around the corner.

Just over a month until school starts and some kids struggle every year to fill their backpacks with school supplies and lunches.

“When kids come to school and they don't have something, they are always worried about it and I just say, ‘as long as you have your brain and your heart, we'll figure the rest out, it doesn't matter,’” Roosevelt Elementary teacher Kate Lyle said.

Lyle is a kindergarten teacher that gets 20 new students every year. She said many of them cannot afford school supplies. Lyle said that she has to buy some of the materials herself.

Unfortunately, Lyle’s story is not unique.

“In reality, it’s really powerful for kids to have everything they need,” Lyle said. “They feel like everybody else and they feel like the playing field is really level. And, if we can empower kids in that way, it’s really, really amazing.”

Tools 2 Schools is taking donations to help Lyle and other teachers across the Inland Northwest. Any donations can be dropped off at area Walmarts. There will be a Tools 2 Schools box near the entrances.
