SPOKANE CO, WASH — As the new school year approaches, many Spokane children struggle to get the supplies they need to be successful.
As of 2017, 57 percent of students enrolled in Spokane County Public Schools receive free or reduced lunches.
Some of the most common supplies needed are three-ring binders, gym shoes, college ruled paper and backpacks. The backpacks and gym shoes are the most expensive items and can come out to $40 each.
These back-to-school essentials can cost families nearly $120 and for families with multiple children that number only multiplies.
KREM 2 relies on the community’s assistance to make Tools 2 Schools successful and there is a great need for supplies for Spokane students.
You can head over to KREM.com and check out the list of the supplies we need to help make going back to school easier for local families.
Donations can be made until Sunday at area Walmart stores.
