Level 2 evacuations in place for Crescent Mountain Fire burning in Okanogan Co.

Level 2 evacuations are in place for residents above the road closures at the intersection of Buttermilk Road and Twisp River Road. Level 2 evacuations mean be ready to evacuate at any moment's notice

OKANOGAN COUNTY, Wash.-- The fire burning 21 miles from Twisp in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has burned a total 11,300 acres Wednesday afternoon.

It is burning near the headwaters of the Twisp River Valley. Officials are calling it the Crescent Mountain Fire.

Fire crews are creating contingency lines at Buttermilk Road and working on containing the fire.

The fire started started Sunday, July 29 and fire officials said it was caused by lightning. According to fire crews, the fire is progressing down the Twisp River drainage and spreading northeast.

Officials are issuing several road closures including:

  • Twisp River Road from the intersection with Buttermilk Road to Roads End Campground.
  • West Twisp River Road from the intersection with Buttermilk Road to Twisp River Horse Camp.
  • All trailheads and trails originating from the roads above.

The Crescent Mountain Fire is zero percent contained as of Wednesday afternoon.

The Okanogan-Wentachee National Forest is under a complete fire ban.
