Lewiston businesses receive bomb threats asking for $20K in Bitcoin

They said the threats ask for $20,000 in Bitcoin or the sender will have their "mercenary" bring a bomb into the business.

Businesses in Lewiston have been receiving threatening emails Thursday, according to Lewiston Police.

They said the threats ask for $20,000 in Bitcoin or the sender will have their “mercenary” bring a bomb into the business.

Police officials said a bomb has not been found at any of the locations. They have told owners that if they want to keep operating as normal, it is up to their discretion, but to stay on the lookout for anything suspicious.

The emails are coming from “Claire Washington” at this address: janine@tonumbers.com. Police said a couple businesses in the City of Moscow have also reported receiving the same messages. They said if you receive an email from the email address, do not open it and call police.

Multiple bomb threats have been reported in cities across the country, including in Chicago, New York City and Denver.

The FBI said it is responding to the reports.

It’s unclear if all the threats are related.
