Man holds American Flag high to honor fallen heroes for Memorial Day

One man's dedication to our troops is undeniable and unavoidable this Memorial Day.

We met Shaun Key last Memorial Day as he held an American flag on the side of North Indian Trail Road. This Memorial Day he returned to the streets to honor fallen heroes.

If you were near the intersection of Sharp and Division Streets Monday afternoon you probably saw Key.

"The honking and cheering, yes I love it, it means a lot, because it means they see this flag and they remember the men and women who died and what this day is about,” Key said.

Memorial Day is a special day for Key, he said he has lost some loved ones who served, and this is how he honors them.

"I can't bring them back, but they definitely give me the freedom to be able to live my life everyday.. And I want people to see this flag because it represents them,” Key said.

And this year Key's flag wasn't the only one hoisted high. Anne Carl said she learned what Key was doing and wanted to join in. Carl said she comes from a military family, so she did not hesitate when it came paying homage to the service men and women who have passed.

"I think this holiday is a lot more than partying. It's about respect of what they did and those who are still here what they've gone through,” Carl said.

So they gave some of their time on this holiday for those who gave their lives. "This is all I can give to them for what they've done for me,” Key said.

Key spent a few hours on Division Street and then moved on to Indian Trail Road.
