Latah Co. man donates land to be used as park after he dies

Over the years, Lloyd had said that he planted over 500 trees on the property ranging from conifers to plum and oak trees. He wanted the trees to remain on the property.

LATAH COUNTY, Idaho — Thanks to the generosity of a local resident, new park could be in the future of those living in and around Moscow.

Last week, Latah County Commissioners reportedly signed off on a gift deed from Latah County resident Reo Lloyd, 69. Lloyd had said he plans on giving the county eight acres of his land to be used for a natural park when he dies.

The land, located off of North Polk Street Extension, sits just outside of Moscow City limits and not far east of Highway 95. Over the years, Lloyd had said that he planted over 500 trees on the property ranging from conifers to plum and oak trees. He wanted the trees to remain on the property.

Lloyd's home and a shop building also sit on the land, but the future of those buildings remain uncertain.

Under approval from Latah County commissioners, the park would be named after Lloyd's father, the Moscow-Pullman Daily News reported.

County leaders called Lloyd's gift "generous," according to the paper, adding that the land's placement North of Moscow could be ideal if the city eventually grows that direction. Latah County currently oversees four county parks.

If county leaders were to ultimately decide that the land couldn't be used for a park, the property would be turned over to Lloyd's heirs.

Currently, there are no county or city parks near the property. The nearest county parks are five miles north of Moscow off of Highway 95.
