LEWISTON, Idaho — Evacuations have been lifted following a chlorine leak in Downtown Lewiston Thursday evening.
City of Lewiston Public Information Officer Carol Maurer said the leak was reported by an employee at OXARC on 3rd Avenue around 2:11 p.m. The employee said a 150 pound cylinder of chlorine was on the floor and a green cloud of smoke was coming out of the base.
Maurer said crews evacuated the area 500 feet from the building and kept the area clear while they waited for the Regional Two Hazardous Material Response Team to arrive.
The team was able to contain and clear the area by 6 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
