Post Falls couple marries early for bride's terminally ill father

The couple originally planned to tie the knot this fall. But just days before Christmas, Alexander learned terrible news about her dad.

A Post Falls couple rang in the New Year by saying their 'I do's.'

Rebecca Alexander and Thomas Walker read their vows during a small ceremony before their closest family and friends.

The wedding couldn't have gone any smoother. The dress was prefect and the decorations were romantic.

It's like you couldn't even tell they had less than a week to plan.

"You go from like, oh we're getting married in nine months, to oh we have one week," Alexander said.

The couple originally planned to tie the knot this fall. But just days before Christmas, Alexander learned terrible news about her dad.

"He has a glioblastoma, that's a butterfly tumor in his brain," Alexander said. "It's inoperable and untreatable as far as we know. The first few days were really rough. It was kind of like mourning the diagnosis. But for me it was like nothing has happened. Let's treat it and him as you would any other day."

Unsure of the time they have left, Alexander knew she wanted the memory of her dad walking her down the aisle. So they decided to have the wedding on New Year's Day.

"Well, when you get some unfortunate news, you gotta roll with the punches and do what you can," Alexander said.

The Post Falls community has grown to know and love the Alexander family. So when it came to making their special day possible, there was no hesitation.

"Just people have been like 'don't worry what do you need I got you', and just doing things without even asking," Alexander said. "We're just so overwhelmed with everyone's thoughtfulness and love."

She said it's been a blessing for this special day to come together, and to have the memory of walking down the aisle with her dad.

"I love you, dad, and thanks for all you've done," Alexander said. "I'm so excited I get to walk with you."

The newly weds still plan to have their originally planned ceremony in September.

Tonight though, they're thanking everyone who helped put the wedding together so quickly.
