KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — Coeur d’Alene Police arrested a wanted man following a car chase near N. 4th Ave. and E. Best Ave. Friday afternoon.

Around 4 p.m., a Coeur d’Alene police officer initiated a traffic stop after locating Mitchell C. Michael, 32, who law enforcement listed as a wanted person. Michael fled the scene in his vehicle followed by Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office K9 Handler Deputy Nelson.

Michael drove into a dead end road at N. Rose Ln. near N. 9th St., where he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Deputy Nelson deployed K9 Pogo, who pursued Michael until they made contact and Nelson arrested him.

Deputy Nelson arrested Michael for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of methamphetamine, attempting to elude a police officer, resisting/obstructing a peace officer and the original arrest warrant for resisting/obstructing a peace officer.

After being taken to Kootenai Health for wounds sustained from contact with the K9, Michael was booked into custody without further incident. Michael has been booked 30 previous times for robbery, drug possession, battery, probation violations and numerous other offenses.
