Fire burning near Four Lakes contained

Fire crews said the fire was burning roughly half an acre. They said the fire started when a truck carrying hay caught on fire.

CHENEY, Wash. — A small fire burning northeast of South Granite Lake Rd and South Betz Rd is contained Tuesday, according to Spokane County Fire District 3.

Authorities said the fire started around 2:42 p.m. It was burning near exit 270 along I-90, according to the Cheney Fire Department.

Fire crews said the fire was burning roughly an acre. They said the fire started when a truck carrying hay caught on fire. Officials said when the driver noticed the fire, they quickly drove away from a nearby wheat field, reducing the possibility of a bigger fire.

Officials said the fire is not affecting I-90. The fire is contained, but there is still a large amount of smoke in the area, according to fire crews.
