Authorities catch Asotin Co. elk poaching suspects

Authorities seize elk heads

ASOTIN COUNTY, Wash. – Authorities in Asotin County have identified two suspects who illegally killed a couple of trophy-class elk.

After finding the suspects, Department of Fish and Wildlife officers then searched a cabin belonging to the suspects. Inside the home, officers said they found more than a dozen other animal heads. All of them have been seized.

Authorities said the elk were found on November 1 in a field near the intersection of Wissenfels Ridge Road and Kiesecker Road near Anatone. They said the animals were found 100 yards apart.

Officials said both their heads were taken along with some back strap meat. The rest was left to rot.

Since then, Fish and Wildlife officer received several tips about the poaching and they were able to identify the suspects. Officers got a warrant for the cabin and there they found the elk heads.
