A viral photo and GIF of Parkland shooting survivor Emma González ripping up a copy of the U.S. Constitution is photoshopped, according to an editor at the publication where the original photo came from.
Teen Vogue’s executive editor, Samhita Mukhopadhyay, took to Twitter to clarify that the photo was indeed photoshopped from an original photo that depicted González tearing up a paper target.
Buzzfeed initially reported on this development, but the original photo and GIF that depicted González tearing up a target was part of a feature piece in the March issue of Teen Vogue regarding activists leading the #Marchforourlives rally, which garnered numerous supporters across the country and world on Saturday.
González has become a main figurehead of the March for our lives movement, along with several other teens from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, following the deadly mass shooting at the school on Feb. 14 that left 17 dead and numerous others injured.
Numerous people online have shared the reportedly doctored photo, as seen below:
Others have come to González’s defense and shown the original photo as it was depicted in Teen Vogue.
