SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- Officials with the Spokane Valley Fire Department reported a slow-moving brush fire behind the Granite Point Apartments located on E. Mansfield Avenue on Friday afternoon.
When crews arrived on scene around 10:30 a.m, they saw a heavy smoke in the trees inside a fenced natural area just west of Mirabeau Park. The fire was burning in low brush in sloped, rocky terrain.
Officials said the fire is was 100 percent contained around noon. They said the fire burned two to three acres in the natural area.
Four crews were on the scene, officials said. An aerial drop was initially sent to the area but was diverted to another fire.
One firefighter was treated for heat-related illness and transported to a local emergency room for evaluation, officials said. No structures were damaged or lost in the fire and no evacuations were issued.
The cause is under investigation, officials said.
