Kootenai Co. deputies arrest 13-year-old after high speed chase near Athol

The juvenile stopped only after receiving a call from a parent to stop the chase.

KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — Kootenai County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 13-year-old who led police on a high speed chase near the town of Athol, ID.

According to a Facebook post from the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, the 13-year-old led deputies on a high speed chase starting shortly after 1 a.m. 

The SUV was driven by a 13-year-old whose name has not yet been released. According to the KCSO, a 15-year-old was also in the vehicle.

The chase began after the SUV ran a stop sign before accelerating to nearly 80 mph on Highway 54. The pursuing deputies also saw the SUV fail to yield as it drove down the highway, according to KCSO.

After turning onto Clagstone Rd., the driver sped up to speeds of over 100 mph before failing to stop for a stop sign as the SUV went through the intersection of Good Hope Rd. and Parks Rd, according to the Facebook post.

While deputies lost the SUV for a short time, they later regained sight of the vehicle, and a short time later, the driver pulled over after one of the parents of the driver called and told the juvenile to stop for the police, according to KCSO.

The driver faces charges of felony eluding and reckless driving and was booked into the Kootenai County Juvenile Detention Facility, according to the KCSO.
