That's what makes this campaign so fun. STCU and KREM 2 want to know your answer. What's your favorite non-profit? "Who Do You Love" when it comes to the charities in our community?
The winner of the Children’s Charity round in May was Willow Center for Grieving
Willow Center for Grieving Children provides support to children, teens and their families who are grieving the death of a loved one. The program is coordinated by behavioral health professionals and trained volunteers to promote the expression & understanding of grief and loss while decreasing feelings of isolation.
Based in Lewiston, ID, Willow Center serves the Lewis-Clark Valley region including Pullman, Orofino, Cottonwood, and Riggins. Willow Center is the only organization between Boise and Spokane that is dedicated to serving the needs of grieving children, teens and their families in a free-of-charge, on-going, open-ended, support group format.
The winners of February’s general voting round are below!
1. 1st place: Camp STIX Camp STIX is a unique non-profit organization which offers unparalleled camp experiences and community for children living with Diabetes. Their camps include a 3-day non-residential day camp for kiddos ages 6-8, a week-long residential camp for youth ages 9-16, and an excursion based Adventure Camp for teens and young adults ages 16-19! The camps foster the ability for these youth to build relationships and community, realizing they are not alone in living with Diabetes.
2. 2nd Place: Giving Back Pack Spokane The mission of Giving Back Packs is simple: we hand out full backpacks to those who are experiencing homelessness.
3. 3rd Place: North Spokane Dance Association Learn to Dance through this great organization!
In January, American Childhood Cancer Organization of the Inland Northwest, was the winner of the voting round focused on charities that support healthy living in our region. American Childhood Cancer Organization Inland Northwest’s unique mission is to help each family cope with life during childhood cancer treatments and rebuild their lives after cancer from the experienced perspective of those who have been there before.
In November, Spokane Lilac Festival Association was the winner of the voting round focused on charities that support military and veterans in our region. The Spokane Lilac Festival Association works to honor our military, empower our youth and showcase our region.
In September, Sandpoint Area Seniors was the winner of the voting round focused on charities that support senior citizens. They have been serving the Sandpoint area for over 45 years! Their mission is to provide all senior citizens over the age of 50 with nutritional meals and to serve as a gathering place for social, recreations and wellness programs.
In May, Elevations Charity, was the winner of the voting round focused on charities that support children in our region. Elevations supports children with special needs and empowers them to reach their full potential by providing access to the resources and support they need to improve their family's overall quality of life.
Congratulations to February's General Who Do you Love winners Heath's Haven Rescue & Sanctuary, first place winner ($5,000); Mission Community Outreach Center, second place ($2,500); and Vytal Movement Dance, third place ($1,000.)
For the January 2020 Healthy Living focus, Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance won prize money for their unique organization which creates, maintains, and protects sustainable mountain biking opportunities in Washington.
