KETTLE FALLS, Wash. — Kettle Falls' downtown association collaborated to make a video to submit to HGTV's "Hometown Takeover" contest in the hopes of revitalizing their small town.
The "Hometown Takeover" contest features "Home Town" HGTV stars Ben and Erin Napier. The Napiers are usually remodeling historic homes, but according to the show's website the couple also has experience in "whole-town transformations."
A member of the Kettle Falls Downtown association heard about the contest and decided they needed to throw their hat in the ring.
Citizens from all over town got involved in the process. A local high school teacher gathered pictures and videos with her students, a local bar owner narrated and provided the music for the video, and some local photographers, The Crists, donated their time to shoot video and put the project together.
Members of the Downtown Association say if they got chosen they could restore some community staples they don't have the money to fix on their own.
"We were hoping to get some help restoring our veterans building, which really needs help," said Downtown Association member Robyn Westergard. "Our pool, it's been down for four years and we've been desperately trying to fix it, but it's very costly."
The downtown association also put a new roof for city hall and restoration of historical homes on their wish list.
Association members say if Kettle Falls does get chosen, the contest could restore more than just a few buildings.
"I think that if they did pick us, and they did come here, it would make people feel important again," said association member Jen Jellsey.
