COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — A popular North Idaho burger joint is getting ready for its next big move.

Surf Shack, which used to operate out of a gas station in Coeur d'Alene, now sits in the parking lot of mini golf course Puttin Around in Post Falls.

In 2018, the burger joint was given the title of best burgers in Idaho from the website "Only in Your State."

Owner Jake Latuseck, who calls himself the "grill master," whips up a variety of California style burgers from a food trailer Monday through Saturday.

"It's really that love factor, you know? Just the attention to detail, making sure everything is prepped the same day, the homemade sauce – that's a big deal as well," Latuseck said.

Now, Latuseck is getting ready to move back to Coeur d'Alene. He plans on taking over the old Dairy Queen building on Appleway Avenue.

"We are shooting for a July opening date, so hopefully we can make that happen," he said.

However, that doesn't necessarily mean he is giving up on his prime spot next to the golf course.

"Ideally we will get to the point where we can run both," Latuseck said. "I really like this location being next to the mini golf course. Families come out here and have a lot of fun."
