Wind forecast: It gets better before it gets worse

SPOKANE, Wash.—The Storm Tracker 2 team will be tracking calming winds Thursday afternoon.

Gusts were reported from 25-35 MPH through Central WA Wednesday.

A new fire sparked near Quincy and Ephrata Wednesday night. Fire crews there blamed the spread of the flames on the high winds before containment.

The strong winds will bring an elevated fire concern Thursday to Montana. RED FLAG WARNING in effect until Thursday at 9:00 p.m.

After a calmer day, Thursday for Washington and Idaho, winds will be even stronger on Friday afternoon.

The wind gusts could reach 40 to 50 miles-per-hour throughout the day on Friday.

This will bring a return of the fire concern to Central WA Friday.

Smoke and haze will linger over parts of the Inland Northwest, especially to the north.

Reports said air quality should be better to the south today.
