Tropical Storm Harvey breaks record for tropical storm rainfall in contiguous United States

Tropical Storm Harvey broke the all-time record for tropical storm rainfall in the contiguous United States.

The previous record was 48 inches of rain from Hurricane Amelia in Medina Texas.  The wettest tropical cyclone ever was recorded at 52 inches in Hawaii in 1950. 

The current Harvey total is 49.3 inches, measured from August 25 to August 29.

  2. 49.30"(and counting)- Harvey 2017- Houston, Texas
  3. 48.00"-Amelia 1978- Medina, Texas
  4. 45.20"- Easy 1950- Yankeetown, Florida
  5. 45.00"- Claudette 1979- Alvin, Texas
