SPOKANE—A one of a kind program is in the process of being tested in Washington State.
The Bureau of Land Management put together a team of firefighters made up completely of veterans. They group will help battle wildfires throughout the state.
The pilot program consists of ten crew members. Organizers said the goal is to give returning veterans experience in the firefighting field.
Veterans on the team said having been through stressful situations while serving in the military makes them prepared to handle the stress of firefighting.
The crew is expected to work through November.
