BONNERS FERRY, Idaho-- A late June storm brought pounding rain to the Inland Northwest and brought damage to one North Idaho County.

There is concern in Bonners Ferry surrounding the Kootenai River. It is about a foot above flood stage and city leaders are calling it a disaster

Storm drains are backing up, pumps are overworked, and the Kootenai River is rising near the town’s casino.

City Administrator Steven Boorman and the rest of Bonners Ferry leaders put out a disaster emergency declaration Tuesday afternoon.

As of Tuesday the swollen river was only putting one home in danger. Waters could rise to about two feet over flood stage and it hasn’t been that high since 2006.
