SPOKANE VALLEY -- Normally people complain about potholes on city streets, but one Spokane Valley woman wanted to know why crews patched up her block recently.
Debra Rose lives on Sixth Ave just east of Havana.
She said last Friday, Spokane Valley street crews put a cold mix patch on the edge of her street near her home. Rose feels the patch was a waste of resources because not many people drive along the edge of the street.
Rose also does not understand why the City would fill two holes and leave two others just like it a short distance away.
Spokane Valley city officials said the work is needed to keep certain street edges from crumbling further into the center of the roadway. If the City waits until the street requires reconstruction, it would cost eight times the amount to do the maintenance upfront.
The patches are meant as a temporary fix until crews can lay asphalt.
