OKANOGAN COUNTY, Wash.-- The Okanogan County Sheriff said the B and O wildfire has been contained and roads have been reopened.

Flames burned brush Monday south of Okanogan near Highway 20 according to the Okanogan County Sheriff.

Crews from the Department of Natural Resources were also on site as fire crews battled the more than 1000-acre wildfire. DNR leaders said they are using two helicopters and a tanker to fight the flames.

Okanogan Sheriff Frank Rogers told other news outlets the fire may have been started by a mower.

Two-hundred people were without power Tuesday morning. A spokesman for the Okanogan Public Utility District says power has been restored in Winthrop and Twisp after the fire brought down a transmission line.

The wildfire forced authorities to close part of Highway 20.

At least two homes were evacuated until the fire passed, and about 50 residents were warned to prepare to evacuate.

DNR leaders said they received a call about the fire starting at 12:54 p.m.
