SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Some boaters off the California coast survived a close encounter with a humpback whale.
That huge whale surfaced right in the middle of a group of boaters and paddle borders near Central California.
Whale watchers say they often see the creatures this time of year, but it is rare to see them surface so dramatically.
