KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho--Health officials issued a warning this week for people visiting Fernan Lake near Coeur d’Alene. High levels of toxic blue-green algae are forcing people to stay out of the lake.

The type of algae is a type of bacteria harmful to humans and animals. Doctor said the algae could cause skin irritation, allergic reactions, and liver damage if you ingest the tainted water or swim in the lake.
