SPOKANE--A key part of the “Operation Red Light” investigation started online with sites such as Backpage.com and Spokaneboard.com.

Investigators have been looking into SpokaneBoard for some time.  The focus was initially on the owner of the site but it helped them to learn about the Asian spas as well.

Sites like Spokaneboard.com claimed they were escort services and tried to hide the fact that they were Web sites for prostitution.  This site helped connect prostitutes with Johns in Operation Red Light.

Even after Airway Heights Police arrested the owner, the site was still up and running.  They estimated he was making $6,000 a month.

The site also connected to the spas because they were advertising on Spokaneboard.com.

The effort to shut it down late last year was halted by international law, since the site was hosted in Europe.
