SPOKANE, Wash. -- The mayor of Spokane says security at City Hall will be increased in order to make the building more accessible to the public.
Spokane Police Lieutenant, Rex Olson, will now be stationed inside the building during business hours in addition to contract security officers.
In 2008, someone fired six rounds from a handgun into a second story window. After that incident visitors to City Hall are now required to check in with security and wear a visitor's badge.
Mayor David Condon said with there being more access to City Hall, security needed to be updated. The mayor also looked at recent acts of violence across the country.
Lieutenant Olson says having a police presence helps take care of any issue that arises and hopefully prevents them from becoming worse.
